Jobless rate holds steady

Spokane County’s jobless rate in August remained steady at 5.2 percent, the same as one month earlier, the state’s Employment Security Department reported Tuesday.

Statewide, Washington’s unemployment rate dipped in August to 5.2 percent from July’s level of 5.3 percent.

Nationwide the jobless rate fell to 4.7 percent in August, down slightly from 4.8 percent in July.

Spokane County gained 100 new jobs in the housing and construction sector from July to August. Financial services also gained 100 jobs during that period.

Losing jobs between July and August in Spokane were retail trade (down 200) and education and health services (also down 200).

Tomlinson Black opens new office

Tomlinson Black Real Estate opened its 16th sales office, located in the historic Schade Building near Spokane’s Riverpoint Higher Education campus.

Jim Wilson is the office’s sales manager. It has eight agents.

Dave Black, CEO of Tomlinson Black Commercial, one of the Tomlinson Black Group of Companies, is a member of an investor group that bought the century-old former brewery building last year.

Silver Summit set for Sept. 21-24

Forty silver mining and exploration companies will participate in this year’s Silver Summit, which takes place Sept. 21-22 at the Coeur d’Alene Inn, 414 W. Appleway, and Sept. 23-24 in Wallace.

The cost for the Coeur d’Alene events is $25; two days of tours and lectures are available in Wallace for an additional $100.
