Otis Orchards bakery having sweet success

The undeniably sweet smell of fresh baking bread hits as soon as people enter Four Corners Country Bakery in Otis Orchards.

And in a glass case at the back, an assortment of breads, rolls, doughnuts and specialties is enough to make anybody hungry for a snack.

“Most bakeries don’t do doughnuts, and most doughnut shops don’t bake bread,” said sole owner Jamie Mann. “We do it all.”

Mann, who grew up in Otis Orchards, said she is taking cues and advice from her parents, who owned Spokane Door Systems for 32 years in the area.

The bakery, at Wellesley Avenue and Harvard Road, has been doing surprisingly well since it opened two weeks ago, Mann said. So good, she said, that it caught her off guard. She went to the Liberty Lake Farmers’ Market last Saturday and sold out of 115 loaves of bread in about two hours.

“It’s amazing how well God has blessed us,” Mann said.

The bakery features large-sized portions of traditional breads and doughnuts. The apple fritters are the size of dinner plates, and the bakery does not use preservatives in its ingredients.

The store features seating for 50, and Mann said she plans to expand with a soup and salad bar.

The business is getting about 75 percent of its business from Liberty Lake, she said.

“It’s rewarding to see the positive attitudes of customers,” Mann said. “Everyone’s so encouraging and wants us to succeed.”
