Area teams impressive at Sundodger Invite

The University of Idaho men’s cross country team finished eighth, while the women finished 10th at the Sundodger Invitational hosted by the University of Washington Saturday at Lincoln Park in Seattle.

Leading the way for the Vandals was sophomore Kevin Friesen, who finished 21st in the men’s 8-kilometer run with a time of 24 minutes, 44 seconds. Freshman Rhea Richter was tops amongst the Vandals women, finishing 27th in the 6-kilometer run with a time of 21:36.

Also at the Sundodger Invite were Washington State, Gonzaga and Whitworth.

Washington State’s men finished third, while the women took fourth. Individually, Collier Lawrence finished ninth and Isley Gonzalez took 16th for the men.

The Whitworth women finished in eighth place, while the men took ninth. Julie Lauterbach led the Pirates, finishing 22nd overall with a time of 22:44.

Gonzaga’s men finished ninth and the Bulldog women finished 14th. Joe Miller led the men, taking 20th in 24:43.

Volleyball

North Idaho beat the Community Colleges of Spokane and Whatcom Community College before falling to Southern Idaho to wrap up the North Idaho Volleyball tournament in Coeur d’Alene.

In the first match, Amanda Misa had eight kills and Lauren Stern added 27 assists as the Cardinals beat the Sasquatch 30-21, 30-16. Misa came up big again in NIC’s 30-15, 30-10 win over Whatcom, combining with Cintia Alessi and Daidre Mendenhall for 22 kills.

In the final match, North Idaho fell to Southern Idaho 25-30, 30-21, 15-6. Stern lead the Cardinals with 26 assists.

•Jeanette Jenkins had 18 kills and Mandy Klein added 46 assists as Boise State (6-5) beat Gonzaga (4-9) 30-26, 30-26, 30-28 at the Bronco Fall Invitational in Boise.

Klein added five kills, three aces and eight digs for Boise State. Becky Jones led the Bulldogs with 15 kills, two aces and eight digs.

Gonzaga will return to action on Tuesday when it plays at Montana.
