Owlful

Minnesota handed Temple its second 62-0 loss in a row and 15th straight defeat. The Owls have been outscored 124-0 in the last two games, including a 62-0 loss to Louisville at home last week.

Streaking teams

Joe DiGiacomo passed for 206 yards and two touchdowns to help Brown beat Georgetown, D.C., 34-21 and match a school record with its ninth consecutive victory dating to last season. … Rutgers recorded its first 3-0 start since 1981 with a 24-7 victory over Ohio. … Indiana State lost 59-40 to Murray State, stretching the longest current losing streak in Division I football to 20 games. … Syracuse ended an 11-game losing streak with a 31-21 victory over Illinois. The Orange won for the first time since beating Buffalo 31-0 in the second game of last season.

Stingy defense

Georgia blanked UAB 34-0 for the No. 10 Bulldogs’ second straight shutout. The Blazers managed only 163 yards against a defense that shut out South Carolina 18-0 the previous week. Georgia has gone 123 minutes, 32 seconds since allowing a point. It was the first time since 1980 – the Bulldogs’ national championship season – that they’ve posted two shutouts in a row.

Rate of return

Defensive end Jeremy Thompson scored on an 86-yard interception return to help Wake Forest beat Connecticut 24-13 and record its first 3-0 start since 1987. Thompson, 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, outran everyone down the right side, avoiding several tackles for the second-longest interception return in team history.
