Greek Festival

With the arrival of autumn comes an old Spokane tradition, one that’s been around for seven decades.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., is holding its 71st Annual Greek Festival, Thursday through Sept. 30. Lunch is served at 11 a.m., and dinner is from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Experience Greek culture with dancing and cooking demonstrations. The Orthodox bookstore will be open as well.

Dinner tickets are $12 and diners have the choice of enjoying their meals in the church dining room or taking them home. Menu items include souvlaki, kapama, pastries and deli items; beer and wine will be available in the taverna.

Food bazaar

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., is presenting a food bazaar Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The afternoon will include bake and craft sales, and udon noodles will be available for $6. Diners can stay at the temple or take their food to go.

For those interested in learning about Buddhism, the temple is also offering a seven-week course, “Introduction to Buddhism,” starting Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

There is a requested donation of $10 to help pay for printing costs of the learning materials.

Christian Science lecture

First Church of Christ, Scientist, 310 E. 14th Ave., is presenting “Christian Science – How it Heals” on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Martha Moffett of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship will speak about how the power of Christ restores people physically, morally and spiritually.

The Bible and education

The Spokane College Women’s Association is presenting Marie Walchin, an English professor at Concordia University in Portland, at a noon luncheon Wednesday at the Rendezvous Event Center, 1003 E. Trent Ave.

Walchin will discuss “The Bible and Education – Not an Oxymoron,” which will cover the Bible in art, literature, law and education.

Anniversary celebration

Faith Baptist Church, 2804 E. Euclid Ave., is celebrating 25 years of worship Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

The day’s activities include Sunday school at 10 a.m., a morning worship service at 11 and an evening service at 6 p.m. There also will be revival services Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Antique show and sale

Cathedral and the Arts is presenting its 28th Annual Antique Show and Sale Thursday through Sept. 30 at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

The event will kick off with a preview party, a fundraiser for the organization, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening will include antique sales, hors d’oeuvres, wine, silent auctions and more. Tickets are $35 in advance through TicketsWest outlets (509-325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

The antique show and sale will run Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, good all weekend.

Sunday school programs

Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th Ave., is presenting fall Sunday school programs for preschoolers through adults every Sunday at 9:05 a.m.

Junior high students will study the book of Philippians. Adult studies will include two choices, “The Bible in the World Today” or “Shalom.”

Back to School Crusade

Crosswind Church, 17302 N. Newport Highway, Mead, is presenting evangelist Vern Weaver today at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The Back to School Crusade will emphasize youth, but everyone is invited to attend.
