Domestic violence march

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Spokane County law enforcement agencies get more than 15,000 phone calls a year asking for help in such situations. Domestic violence can affect people from all walks of life.

To kick off this month of awareness, Faith Partners Working Against Family Violence and the YWCA/Alternatives to Domestic Violence program are holding a march Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The march will begin at the YWCA, 829 W. Broadway Ave. Representatives will be available from social service agencies and faith communities, and leaders in Spokane also will participate.

Church concerts

•Christian recording artist Bebo Norman brings his “The Dreaming True” tour to Faith Bible Church, 600 W. Cora Ave., on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Norman’s fifth studio album, “Between the Dreaming and the Coming True,” was released last week. Aaron Shust and Brandon Heath are accompanying him on the tour.

Tickets are $15.50 for general admission ($13.50 for groups of 10 or more), $21.50 for gold seating, through TicketsWest outlets (509-325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com) and also are available at area Christian bookstores.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ Church, 411 S. Washington St., is hosting Manna 2006, a benefit concert for Second Harvest Food Bank and Meals on Wheels, Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.

The event will include performances by Sidhe, Big Red Barn, the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus, Susan Windham, Tim Behrens and Spokesman-Review columnist Doug Clark.

Gift baskets will be raffled and will be available for viewing at 2:30 p.m.

Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for seniors; children will be admitted with a donation of food.

John Nilsen will perform today at 7 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 611 S. Garfield St.

The keyboardist has sold more than 500,000 copies of his recordings.

Admission to either concert is free; free-will offerings will be taken.

Blessing of the Animals

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is presenting its annual Blessing of the Animals service Sunday at 10:45 a.m.

Anyone who wishes to attend this service, with or without a pet, is welcome. The Spokane Humane Society will have a booth with pets available for adoption.

Poor Man’s Meal

Catholic Charities is presenting the Bishop’s Poor Man’s Meal on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave.

The meal includes soup and bread. The cost is $10 per person or $30 per family, with proceeds benefiting the House of Charity’s Emergency Winter Sleeping Program.

Cataldo Catholic School is holding a rummage sale at 39 W. 40th Ave. today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The sale will raise funds for the school’s eighth-grade retreat at the Olympic Peninsula Institute.

Seminars and discussions

•New Hope Bible Church, 1445 N. Argonne Road, is presenting a mission conference Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The conference will feature speakers from Life Services of Spokane, Compass USS and True Light Ministries, as well as children’s missionary sessions. There will be a catered lunch Sunday.

The first presentation, on Sunday, will be on “Attitudes about Homosexuality.” The discussion Oct. 8 will be about “How Homosexuality Affects Family Relationships.”

“Understanding Sexual Orientation” will be discussed Oct. 15, and “The Bible and Homosexuality” on Oct. 22.
