Hit on Simms will cost Carolina’s Wallace

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

The NFL fined Carolina defensive end Al Wallace $7,500 Friday for his fourth-quarter hit on Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms.

It’s unclear which hit caused Simms’ injury, but he had complained of soreness and shortness of breath before Wallace’s hit, which was not penalized.

Still, Wallace was fined for unnecessary roughness on the play. The NFL said Wallace violated a rule that says players cannot “unnecessarily or violently throw a (quarterback) down and land on top of him with all the defender’s weight.”

Owens’ status remains unsure

After practicing for the second straight day, Terrel Owens the Dallas Cowboys receiver seemed in good spirits and on track to play Sunday. But Owens, who will travel to Tennessee, refused to say then if he would play against the Titans.

Bill Parcells said Owens has done everything he’s been asked to do in practice this week. Still, Parcells hadn’t decided if the receiver would play against the Titans.

Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer formally agreed to a plea deal after being accused of damaging the license plate holder of another driver during a road rage incident.

Plummer accepted deferred prosecution, which means he won’t be charged with wrongdoing if he stays out of trouble for the next nine months.
