Matt Martin went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as Lewiston hammered host Sandpoint (0-6, 0-4) 14-3 Saturday in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader.

The Bengals scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 9-0 lead.

In the second game, Levi Blinn went 3 for 4 and scored two runs as Lewiston won 5-2. Josh Richardson earned the win for the Bengals (8-1, 6-0).

“St. Maries swept visiting Kellogg in an Intermountain League doubleheader. In the first game, Dalton Baker allowed one hit while striking out eight in the complete game as the Lumberjacks won 5-0. Baker also hit a two-run home run in the fifth. In the second game, St. Maries scored two runs in the sixth to break a 5-all tie as the Lumberjacks won 8-5. Danny Cox hit a three-run homer in the second for the Wildcats.

Levi Lane went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as Pullman routed visiting Medical Lake 11-2 in the first game of a Great Northern League doubleheader. J.T. Levenseller pitched the complete game for the Greyhounds (2-1, 1-1), giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out five. In the second game, Tyler Owens went 4 for 4, including a two-run home run in the second, and knocked in four runs as the Cardinals (3-3, 3-1) pounded Pullman 15-5 in six innings. Medical Lake scored six runs in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run mercy rule. … Elsewhere in the GNL, Anthony Christianson gave up one run on six hits in the complete game as Cheney topped visiting Riverside 5-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Blaine Gibson knocked in two runs as the Blackhawks (3-2, 2-0) won 4-3. Taylor McMahon went 3 for 3 with a solo home run for the Rams (1-6, 0-4). … Clarkston scored two runs in the top of the eighth as the Bantams topped visiting Colville 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. Trent Line pitched the complete game for Clarkston (2-6, 2-2), giving up two runs on five hits. In the second game, Gavin Earnhart hit a home run as the Indians (2-3, 1-1) prevailed 4-1. … Bryan Peterson hit a grand slam in the fourth and West Valley romped past visiting Deer Park (1-4, 0-3) 27-0 in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader. Andrew McLeod knocked in six runs for the Eagles. In the second game, Casey Sherrill went 3 for 3 with four runs and three RBIs as WV (6-3, 3-1) won 11-4.

Softball

Lewiston scored five runs in the third and coasted to an 8-2 win over host Lakeland (4-5, 1-4) in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Rathdrum. Angela Pegram earned the win for the Bengals after allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine in the complete game. In the second game, Amanda Hoffman hit a three-run home run in the sixth and finished with five RBIs as Lewiston (9-3, 5-2) won 12-0.

“Kellogg scored 10 runs in the second and cruised past host St. Maries 21-9 in the first game of an Intermountain League doubleheader. The Lumberjacks allowed 24 walks, eight coming in the decisive second. In the second game, Karly Truscott hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, giving St. Maries a 13-12 come-from-behind victory. The Wildcats (4-5, 1-2) scored four runs in the first two innings to take a commanding 8-1 lead, but the Lumberjacks (4-4, 2-1) scored three runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to go ahead 9-8. … Elsewhere in the IML, Timberlake scored 19 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 28-0 win at Bonners Ferry (0-2, 0-2) in the first game of a doubleheader. The Tigers (5-4, 3-0) won the second game 22-3.

Track and field

Bonners Ferry senior Casey Hampton was named the female track athlete of the meet after winning the 800 and 1,600 meters and leading the Badgers to first-place at the Bonners Ferry Invitational. The Badgers’ Kaitie Poston was the field athlete of the meet after winning the shot put and discus. On the boys’ side, Levi Powers won the long jump and the triple jump as Timberlake took the team title. Powers was named top field athlete and teammate Frank Lagrimanta top track athlete of the meet after winning 1,600 and 3,200.
