60 area employers to attend free job fair

Grab your resume and head to the Spokane Convention Center on April 11 for the 12th annual Inland Northwest Career Fair. More than 60 area employers will be on hand to meet job seekers.
Technology, health care, marketing, sales, finance, hospitality, education, manufacturing and the armed forces are among the job sectors sending representatives.
Doors to the exhibit hall will open at 10 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. Educational seminars and exhibits will also be presented during this time. These events are free and open to everyone.
However, there will be a $10 fee to attend an 8 a.m. talk by Mary Ann Sanger on multigenerational communication in the workplace. Sanger is chairwoman of the management department at Spokane Falls Community College and has taught business courses for 24 years. Early registration is required and breakfast will be served. AmericanWest, Far West merger is complete
AmericanWest Bank announced Monday that its merger with Far West Bancorporation was completed Sunday. AmericanWest acquired 16 Far West Bank branches throughout Utah. The merger raises the combined company’s total assets to $1.9 billion with 62 full-service financial centers, according to an AmericanWest news release.
The Utah branches and a loan production office in South Jordan will continue to operate under the Far West Bank brand, but will be a division of AmericanWest Bank.
The transaction was valued at about $150 million, with Far West shareholders receiving $30 million in cash and AmericanWest common stock valued at approximately $120 million.
AmericanWest now has branches in Eastern and Central Washington, North Idaho and Utah.

Variety of companies to seek workers at fair
More than 100 employers have signed up for the Kootenai County Job Fair, which runs from noon to 6 p.m. on April 18.
The health care, manufacturing, hospitality, call center, grocery and communications industries will be represented at the fair, which will take place at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, 4056 Government Way, in Coeur d’Alene.

Hoover closures mean loss of 750 jobs
The Hoover Co.’s new owner said Monday it will close the main campus and some manufacturing operations of the vacuum cleaner business by fall, resulting in 750 job cuts in Ohio.
Hoover’s union unsuccessfully sought to form a plan for employees to buy the company last year as a way to secure their jobs. The closings will affect about 650 union manufacturing positions and 100 salaried jobs, said Kathy Obert, spokeswoman for Hong Kong-based Techtronics Industries Co. Ltd.
