Easter services planned

Area churches plan Easter celebrations this weekend.

Mead United Methodist Church, 12611 N. Wilson St., Mead, will have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

Its Easter sunrise service will be at 7 a.m. Sunday, followed by a potluck breakfast at 8 a.m., an egg hunt for the children at 9 a.m. and another worship service at 10 a.m.

The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will celebrate a Good Friday Experience at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Unity Community Players will perform a story of how the life and death of Jesus could have impacted people who have changed the world.

The cost to attend the production is by donation.

The Prayer Center of the church will offer a weekend prayer vigil after the Good Friday service from 8 p.m. until midnight and will continue Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Timberview Christian Fellowship, 15511 N. Howe Road, Mead, will offer a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Friday and an Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday. The church also will celebrate Easter worship services at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The sanctuary of the church also will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday for self-guided prayer.

The Ridgeview Christian Center, 5610 N. Ash St., will offer the presentation “Beyond the Cross” Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10:15 a.m.

The production will include music, a choir and a play.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2715 S. Ray St., will offer Taize Prayer Around the Cross at 7 p.m. Good Friday.

A Taize Prayer service includes candlelight and meditative prayer.

The Easter Vigil service will begin Saturday at 7 p.m.

The service will feature a new fire in darkness, the water and the word of baptism and the first Resurrection meal.

The Sunday Easter service will be at 10:30 a.m. and will include Holy Communion.

The Unity Center of North Spokane, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, will celebrate its Easter services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The services will feature the church’s Easter Choir.

First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Boulevard, is offering Easter Sunday worship services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The services will include “Jesus – No Other King,” a performance by the 40-voice Celebration Choir.

The performance also will feature the church praise teams, soloists and two narrators to tell the story of Jesus.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., will hold a Holy Thursday Vesperal Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. today to remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples. At 7 p.m. today the church will read 12 selections from the Gospel in a service of the Passion.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the church will celebrate the Royal Hours, and worshippers will keep vigil at the cross and will recount the story of the Crucifixion. The church also will prepare the representation of Christ’s tomb, which will hold the Epitaphios, the icon of Christ that will be laid in the tomb.

At 3:30 p.m., the church will hold the Vespers of the Unnailing, which will re-enact taking down Christ’s body from the cross.

There also will be a Lamentations service at 7 p.m. for worshippers to express their grief over the death of Christ and their hope in the Resurrection.

Saturday services include a Vesperal Liturgy at 9:30 a.m., a Paschal vigil at 11 p.m. and a Resurrection service at 11:45 p.m.

The Holy Pascha, or Easter service, will be at 11 a.m., when the church will celebrate the Agape Vespers, or Vespers of Love. The Good News of the Risen Christ will be announced in many languages.

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St., will hold a Maundy Thursday service today at 7:30 p.m.

Good Friday will be observed at the church with a blood drive from 2 to 4 p.m.

Easter Sunday brings a brunch at 9:15 a.m. and an Easter worship service at 10:30 a.m.

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal, will observe Maundy Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. service today. There will be two Good Friday services, 12:15 and 6:30 p.m. On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the church will present an Easter Vigil.

The Sunday school kids may participate in an egg hunt at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday and the service will be at 10 a.m.

Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church and the Korean Presbyterian Church will have a joint Maundy Thursday service today at 7 p.m. in the Korean church, 1727 E. Pacific Ave.

Hamblen Park Church, 4102 S. Crestline, will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. and the chancel choir will perform, “Thy Will Be Done,” by C. Courtney.

The church will celebrate three Easter Sunday services at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. The chancel choir will perform the “Hallelujah Chorus” by Handel. The choir will be joined by Ron Wildey on timpani and Jeff Davennycq on trumpet at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services.

The Interfaith Council will have its Easter Sunrise service from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way.

St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6905 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present a Good Friday Tenebrae Service of Darkness Friday at 7 p.m.

There will be an Easter Festival Celebration worship at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and a breakfast will be offered between services.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2404 N. Howard St., will present an Agape Dinner for Maundy Thursday service today at 6 p.m. The dinner will be followed by a worship service at 7:15 p.m. which will include foot washing. There will be an all-night prayer vigil from 9 p.m. today until 9 a.m. Friday.

The Way of the Cross will be presented at noon on Good Friday, and there will be a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

Easter Vigil service will be Saturday at 7 p.m.

Easter Sunday will include a Choral Eucharist service at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. There will be a family brunch between the services, and the 10:30 service will include an egg hunt for the Sunday school children.

Spokane Crestline Church of the Nazarene, 4520 N. Crestline St., will present a Good Friday service at 3 p.m.

On Easter Sunday, there will be a Resurrection celebration at 8:30 a.m. and morning service at 10:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served between services in the fellowship hall.

Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta St., will present a Maundy Thursday service today at 7 p.m.

There will be a traditional Easter service on Sunday at 9 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10:45 a.m.

St. Gregorios Syrian Orthodox Church of India, 2803 N. Lincoln, will hold Great Friday of the Passion, Veneration of the Cross and Service of the Burial of Our Lord at 5:15 p.m.

The church will offer a Service of the Resurrection Saturday at 8 p.m. and a Holy Qurbana service at 11 p.m. The late service will be followed by a potluck dinner.

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission will present the Living Lord’s Supper Drama and Communion with Emmanuel Presbyterian Church today at 7 p.m.

There will be a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. on Good Friday and a 10:30 a.m. service on Easter Sunday.

“The Washington State University Gospel Choir, God’s Harmony, will perform Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Word of Faith Christian Center, 4001 N. Cook St.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will offer Maundy Thursday worship service today at 7 p.m. The service will tell the story in four ritual acts.

On Good Friday at noon, there will be a traditional liturgy and at 7 p.m., an Experiential Holy Week Pageant will be performed.

Holy Saturday will feature a candlelight Easter Vigil at 7 p.m., and Easter Sunday services will be celebrated at 8 a.m. with a traditional Eucharist and a Festival Eucharist at 10 a.m.

New Heights Church, 708 W. Nora Ave., will offer two Easter weekend services.

The first will be Friday at 7 p.m. and the second will be Saturday at 10 a.m.

There also will be a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Sprague and Helena.

Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will present a Good Friday service featuring the church choir Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The church will celebrate Easter with three services Sunday. The sunrise service will meet at 7 a.m. and there will be a continental breakfast to follow.

There also will be worship services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Shiloh Hills Fellowship, 207 E. Lincoln Road, will present the Children of the World International Children’s Choir Sunday at 9 and 10:45 a.m.

The choir is made up of 16 disadvantaged and orphaned children from India, Uganda, Brazil and the Philippines who will sing in English and their native languages.

There will be a free-will donation taken at the end of the performance to benefit the World Help’s Sponsorship Program.

Speakers

Crosswind Church, 17302 N. Newport Highway, Mead, will present speakers and authors David and Barbara Womack Sunday through April 13.

The pair will conduct services that will discuss “Early Church Christianity,” Sunday at 10:45 a.m. and at 6:30 p.m., and Monday through April 13 at 7 p.m.
