Last race: Kimi Raikkonen won in his first race for Ferrari, dominating the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 18 for his 10th Formula One victory. Raikkonen started from the pole and led almost throughout the race to edge world champion Fernando Alonso, who made his McLaren debut. Last year: Giancarlo Fisichella finished ahead of Fernando Alonso as the pair gave Renault its second 1-2 finish ever. Fisichella was ahead of Alonso by 4.5 seconds at the finish but controlled the race throughout. Fast facts: McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, F1’s first black driver, finished third in the Australian Grand Prix. Hamilton became the first rookie to finish in the top three in his debut since Canadian Jacques Villeneuve took second at the 1996 Australian GP. … FIA issued a rule clarification last week about the deflection of the car’s floor. Some teams could be running spring supporting devices, allowing the floor to pass the standard deflection test, but then move under higher loads at speed on the circuit. NASCAR NEXTEL CUP

NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCKS

Last race: Mike Skinner started on the pole and stayed out front nearly all day at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, leading all but seven of 253 laps to win his third consecutive race. Coming off victories at California and Atlanta, Skinner set a series record by leading 246 laps and won for the 22nd time in his career. INDY RACING LEAGUE

Last race: Helio Castroneves cruised to an easy victory, running a nearly perfect race to win the Honda St. Petersburg Grand Prix for the second straight year. Castroneves, who started from the pole, led for all but five of the 100 laps on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn street circuit. He pulled away from runner-up Scott Dixon on restarts after several caution flags and won by 0.6007 seconds — about eight car-lengths. Kanaan finished third for the same 1-2-3 finish as last year.
