They will show quilts, talk about their work together and what inspires them, and answer questions. Several quilts are on view at the library through next Thursday.

Slusser and Magaret have been designing quilts, lecturing and teaching nationally, and writing books together since 1985, according to an e-mail from Ann Marra of the Colfax Arts Council.

Tonight’s event is free and open to the public at the library, 102 S. Main St. in Colfax. For more information call (509) 397-4366.

‘The Scoop’

The Scoop, a new ice cream and coffee spot on the South Hill, is hanging a series of black-and-white photographs by Mike Pittman (www.pittmanphoto.com) through April.

“Snippets,” a collection of pictures taken over the past two years, includes images of small, rural towns as well as scenes of New York City.

An opening reception is Friday between 6:30 and 9 p.m., with live acoustic music, at 1001 W. 25th Ave. at the corner of Monroe Street.

Installation at SFCC

Seattle artist Jesse Paul Miller’s new installation opens on Wednesday at the Spokane Falls Community College Gallery of Art.

His pieces use sound, drawing, mass-produced cast-off objects, sculpture and video.

Miller visited Thailand and Laos for six weeks in early 2005.

“The sounds and images from his travels became the subject matter for the current exhibit,” says interim gallery director Bradd Skubinna in an e-mail.

Miller will give a gallery talk about his work on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the gallery, Building 16, on the SFCC campus. The show runs through May 18.

Mobley’s birds

Karen Mobley’s drawings, collages and oil paintings of birds are on display through May 3 at Mobius children’s museum in River Park Square, 808 W. Main Ave.

The exhibit spotlights the use of materials, says Mobley, because it is on display in the area of Mobius that focuses on activities and learning opportunities for children.

Her work is also in the “Works from the Heart” contemporary art auction at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, and her “Giraffe Pretending to be a Tree” is one of the carousel animals that will be auctioned to benefit Ronald McDonald House later this month.
