McDonald House seeks volunteers

Volunteers are needed at the Ronald McDonald House of Spokane.

Duties include answering telephones, doing light housekeeping and assisting staff and guests as needed. You must be able to commit to eight or more hours a month for a minimum of six months. According to a news release, individuals must be at least 18 years old, responsible and dependable and must pass a background check.

Garland District

Appraisals will aid cancer work

The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, 805 W. Garland Ave., is offering three appraisals of collectables for $10 April 21 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The appraisals will be conducted by Julie Buttons of Boulevard Appraisal, Diann Bennett of Antiques Northwest and Dave Williams of Dave’s Collectable Jewelry.

Proceeds will benefit cancer support, patient services, education and research.

Volunteers for the shop and donations are always needed. The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

North Division Street

Water safety class scheduled

Basic water safety instruction will be offered Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division St., in a class sponsored by Mountain Gear and the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department.

The class will prepare and educate students about using the area’s rivers and lakes. A drawing will be held for personal floatation devices for students 18 and younger.

The class is free, but registration is required in order for enough handouts to be prepared for everyone.
