Area Roundup: Cardinals register sweep against Wenatchee Valley

North Idaho swept Wenatchee Valley (21-10) in a non-conference softball doubleheader Tuesday at Memorial Field in Coeur d’Alene.

In the opener, the Cardinals scored five runs in the first inning and won 9-1.

Kelcey Cavan earned the win for NIC after allowing one hit in the complete game.

Angie Boardman finished 2 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs.

NIC (35-18) won the second game 2-0. Cardinals starter Nalani Akana allowed six hits in the complete game.

Shay Craig hit an RBI single in the first inning to put NIC ahead 1-0.

Golf

The Whitworth men shot a final-round 292 to finish second at the Bigfoot Invitational at Qualchan and Hangman Valley golf courses in Spokane.

The Pirates’ Jordan Carter finished with a 143, good enough for third place.

Community Colleges of Spokane took fourth while North Idaho was 12th.
