Area Roundup: EWU stands in fifth place

The Eastern Washington women’s golf team is tied for fifth place with one round left to play at the Big Sky Conference Golf Championship at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.

After Tuesday, the Eagles were tied with Portland State at 613.

EWU’s Chloe Nelson is in eighth place after shooting a two-round total of 151.

The event wraps up today with competition beginning at 7:15 a.m.

“The Whitworth men shot a final-round 292 to finish second at the Bigfoot Invitational at Qualchan and Hangman Valley golf courses in Spokane.

The Pirates’ Jordan Carter finished with a 143, good enough for third place.

Community Colleges of Spokane took fourth while North Idaho was 12th.

Softball

Host North Idaho swept Wenatchee Valley (21-10) in a non-conference doubleheader at Memorial Field in Coeur d’Alene.

In the opener, the Cardinals scored five runs in the first inning and won 9-1. Angie Boardman (University High) finished 2 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs.

NIC (35-18) won the second game 2-0. Cardinals starter Nalani Akana allowed six hits in the complete game.
