Yankees 10, Indians 3: At New York, Alex Rodriguez hit his major league-leading eighth home run, and Jorge Posada and Doug Mientkiewicz also connected in the second inning off an ineffective Jake Westbrook to power the Yankees past Cleveland. Chase Wright, called up from Double-A Trenton to fill a spot in New York’s injury-depleted rotation, was the winner in his major league debut.

Blue Jays 2, Red Sox 1: At Toronto, Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka struck out 10 over six innings but forced in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk to Gregg Zaun in the fourth, and the Blue Jays beat Boston. Matsuzaka retired his first eight batters and Wily Mo Pena’s third-inning homer gave him a lead, but Lyle Overbay’s single tied the score in the two-run fourth.

Tigers 7, Royals 6: At Detroit, Placido Polanco’s tiebreaking single with two outs in the eighth inning gave the Tigers a win over Kansas City and extended the Royals’ losing streak to six. David DeJesus had four hits with a homer and scored three runs for Kansas City – 1-7 on the road.

Devil Rays 6, Orioles 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Rocco Baldelli had a two-run single during a six-run fourth inning, and Tampa Bay beat Baltimore to stop the Orioles’ four-game win streak. Steve Trachsel remained winless in three starts with the Orioles.

Athletics 4, Angels 1: At Oakland, Calif., Bobby Crosby hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning off Jered Weaver and the Athletics defeated Los Angeles.

Rangers 8, White Sox 1: At Chicago, Sammy Sosa hit a three-run homer in his return to the Windy City, the 591st home run of his career, and Texas beat the White Sox.
