Groups can apply for project money

The Spokesman-Review

Community organizations and business groups with projects in the works that will promote Spokane Valley can apply for a portion of the city’s lodging tax.

An advisory committee that disburses an excise tax on hotel stays is taking applications for the funding through May 11.

Under laws surrounding the tax, the money generally can be spent only on tourism promotion and events that bring people to the area.

The Spokane Valley Lodging Tax Advisory Committee recommended $382,500 be spent from the funds last year.

The City Council makes the final decision on the committee’s recommendations. Applications are available online at www.spokanevalley.org or at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave.
