Prep Roundup: CV, Mead Mooberry winners

The Central Valley boys won the 400- and 1,600-meter relays and took first place at the Mooberry Relays Saturday at Gonzaga Prep High School.

The Bears won the 400 relay in 44.2 seconds and took the 1,600 relay in 3:25.

Medical Lake’s David Jacob won the Lindgren Mile in 4:32, while North Central’s Alex Avilla placed second in 4:37.

NC finished second in the team race, followed by Mt. Spokane.

For the girls, Mead’s Ashley Hutchinson and Tifa Puletasi won the discus (225 feet, 9 inches) and placed second in the shot put (74-3), leading the Panthers to a first-place finish. Ferris took second, followed by Shadle Park.

Brittany Williams of Colville won the girls’ Lindgren Mile in 5:27.

East Valley’s Tim Armstrong and Mead’s Nikki Codd were named the Athletes of the Meet.

Erik Hille won the shot put (47-1 1/4) and placed fifth in the discus (112-8) as the Lind-Ritzville boys finished first at the Undeberg Invitational at Medical Lake. Odessa finished second, followed by St. George’s. On the girls’ side, Liberty’s Shawn Hennessey placed second in the triple jump (32-11) and the long jump (14-11), leading the Lancers to a first-place finish. Kylie Casselberry won the 100 (13.3) and Sara Wilke took the 200 (28.10) for Reardan, which finished second. Lind-Ritzville took third, followed by Asotin.

Brian Bordan won the 3,000 steeplechase (10:24.0), leading the University boys to a third-place finish at the Hermiston (Ore.) Invitational. U-Hi’s girls also took third. The Titans were led by Maddie Fuchs, who took first in the 300 hurdles (45.8).

Baseball

West Valley (12-4, 8-2) swept host Medical Lake (4-9, 3-5) in a Great Northern League doubleheader. In the opener, Andy Vennum allowed five hits and struck out 10 in the complete game as the Eagles won 13-1. Bryan Peterson hit a home run in the first inning for West Valley. In the second game, B.J. Palmer went 3 for 4 with three RBIs as WV won 11-8. Peterson added three hits and two RBIs for the Eagles. … Elsewhere in the GNL, Pullman (11-4, 8-2) swept host Deer Park (1-11, 0-9) in a doubleheader. Tyler Druffel hit a three-run homer in the first as the Greyhounds won the opener 10-0 in six innings. J.T. Levenseller picked up the win for Pullman after allowing three hits in the complete game. In the second game, Marty Guettinger allowed two hits as Pullman won 10-0 in five innings. Alec Scourey went 2 for 3 for the Greyhounds. … Clarkston (8-8, 7-3) swept host Riverside (3-12, 1-9) in a doubleheader. Cary Conklin hit a grand slam in the Bantams’ nine-run fourth as Clarkston won the opener 18-1. In the second game, J.T. Rimmelspacher hit a walk-off RBI double in the seventh, giving the Bantams a 9-8 win. Clarkston entered the ninth trailing 8-4, but scored five runs to earn the win.

Softball

Pullman (11-4, 8-2) swept host Deer Park (5-11, 2-8) in a Great Northern League doubleheader. Erika Hanson hit a two-run homer in the third as the Greyhounds won the opener 10-0. Ashley Sterk added a two-run triple in the third for Pullman. In the second game, Torrie Snyder hit two doubles and the Greyhounds won 10-0. Pullman scored nine runs in the first to put the game out of reach. … Elsewhere in the GNL, Clarkston (7-8, 6-3) swept host Riverside (1-11, 0-7) in a doubleheader. In the opener, Danielle Hutchins hit a three-run home run in the third as the Bantams won 9-2. Hutchins finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Riley Swanson earned the win for Clarkston after allowing seven hits in the complete game. In the second game, the Bantams scored 12 runs in the first and cruised to a 25-1 win in five innings. Courtney McKeehan was 4 for 6 with five RBIs to lead Clarkston. … Carey Campbell hit a three-run homer in the fifth as Medical Lake routed host West Valley 16-6 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the final two innings to put the game away. Allie Isaac hit a solo homer for the Eagles in the fifth. In the second game, WV (8-6, 4-4) scored five runs in the first and held on to win 13-12. Campbell hit a three-run homer in the fifth for the Cardinals (5-7, 3-5).

Boys soccer

Craig Nelson, Bryer Reynolds and Cody Payne each scored second-half goals as West Valley (4-9, 4-6) blanked visiting Colville (2-10, 2-9) in the Great Northern League. The Eagles outshot the Indians 28-13.
