Ex-WSU player killed in accident

Former Washington State soccer player Liz Duncan was killed in a car-pedestrian accident Saturday in the Montlake neighborhood of Seattle while she was jogging.

Police said Duncan, 26, was killed when a 16-year-old girl apparently lost control of her car while turning left. The car hit a light pole and Duncan. A man with Duncan was not injured. Neither the driver nor the man were identified.

A popular teammate at WSU from 1998-2001, Duncan was a four-year starter and is fifth on the school’s career assists list with 13.

“She knew how to love people, and that’s what had a lasting impact and made this so hard for so many people,” said Lindsey Jorgensen, who played alongside Duncan and is now an assistant coach at WSU. “Liz is definitely one of the most vibrant and passionate people that I’ve met. She never held back what she felt.”

Indians new logo named ‘The Best’

The Spokane Indians have one of the best new logos in Minor League Baseball according to Baseball America, the industry’s leading publication.

Of 12 new logos in the minor leagues this year, Baseball America, in its April 9-22 issue, recognized the four most outstanding logos, including Spokane’s as “The Best.”

The Indians new logo, unveiled in November, was developed in conjunction with the Spokane Tribe, the team’s tribal namesake. It is believed the first time a professional sports team has worked in conjunction with a local tribe to create a team identity.

The Indians open the season June 19 at Avista Stadium.
