Youth musicians will perform concerts

The Spokane Youth Symphony will present two different concerts to celebrate its 2006-2007 season at the Spokane Masonic Center’s Commandery Room, 1108 W. Riverside Ave.

The Junior Symphonic Orchestra and the Junior Orchestra will perform Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Symphonic Orchestra is made up of students ages 13 to 16 and will perform music from the Romantic era through today.

The orchestra will be conducted by Collins Loupe.

The Junior Orchestra is composed of students ages 11 to 14.

The group is a stepping stone before students move on to the Junior Symphonic Orchestra and finally the Spokane Youth Orchestra.

The Junior Orchestra will be conducted by Carol Pederson.

On Monday, the Intermediate String Orchestra and the Spokane Strings will perform at 7 p.m.

The String Orchestra is made of students ages 10 through 13, from beginners through students who can read in all clefs of music.

It will be conducted by Faye Atwood.

The Spokane Strings is a beginning orchestra for those who have been playing for two years. Participants have only studied privately for a year before joining and didn’t need to audition to join.

They will be conducted by Melissa Mills.

The cost of admission for these concerts is $5 for adults and $10 for families. Kids 12 and younger are admitted free of charge.
