Hymn Festival

The annual citywide Hymn Festival is set for Sunday at 4 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church, 512 S. Bernard St.

The event is sponsored by the Spokane Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Members of more than 20 churches have joined together to form a choir. There also will be a hand bell choir, brass and percussion.

Some pre-selected hymns will be performed, but audience members will be encouraged to request their favorites during the performance. The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

Biblical drama

The Methodist Players at Community United Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene will present a Tableau Vivant (living picture) drama production called “Who Art These Women of the Bible.”

The performance will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1470 W. Hanley. It will feature 25 women bringing to life characters from the Old and New Testaments.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Sukiyaki Dinner

It’s time for the 58th annual Sukiyaki Dinner hosted by Highland Park United Methodist Church.

The meal will be served from noon to 7 p.m. today at the church, 611 S. Garfield. Sushi, sembei, craft and baked goods will also be available for purchase. The cost is $12.

Orthodox answers

Those with questions about Orthodox Christianity are invited to a question-and-answer session hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Common ground

The Rev. Jim Wallis, an author and activist from Washington, D.C., will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Cataldo Hall on the Gonzaga University campus, 500 E. Boone Ave.

His talk, titled “Fundamental Differences, Common Concerns,” will address how people of different ideologies can work together.

Wallis is the author of “God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It.” He is also the editor in chief of Sojourners magazine.

A question-and-answer period will follow the talk. There also will be a book signing. Admission is free, and the public is welcome.

Music service

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church will host a “Fifth Sunday Music Service” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The special service will focus on the background of several favorite hymns, which will be sung by the congregation. The church is at 1926 W. Chelan Ave.

Church concert

Cabaret singer Abby Crawford will perform during the 9 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at Unity Church, at 29th Avenue and Bernard St. The public is welcome.
