Buddhist president will speak

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will present Gordon Bermant, president of the Buddhist Churches of America, during its 10:30 a.m. service Sunday.

Bermant will deliver the service’s dharma message.

Green Bluff clothing bank

Green Bluff Community United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Greenbluff Road, Colbert, is offering free clothing for men, women and children in need.

Christ’s Community Clothing Closet is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.

The church will accept donations of clean, gently used clothing. With school opening again soon, children’s jeans and jackets are especially needed.

Anyone in need of clothing can visit the Clothing Closet. No geographic or economic checks are made as the church tries to help anyone in need.

Vacation Bible school

•The Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave., will offer vacation Bible school Aug. 13-17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The week will include songs, skits, snacks and lunch.

A carnival will be held Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon with VBS graduation on Aug. 19 from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Green Bluff Community United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Greenbluff Road, Colbert, will present “Avalanche Ranch” vacation Bible school from Monday through Aug. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8:20 p.m.

The week will begin with registration at 5:40 p.m.

Children 3 years old through the sixth grade are invited to participate in Bible stories, music, skits, crafts and snacks.

Church dinner

St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, 2815 W. Sunset Blvd., will hold a fish fry Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

For a $10 donation, diners can feast on fish, green beans, potato salad, cornbread, slaw, red rice and dessert.
