Center hosts Hawaiian party

You don’t have to leave town to enjoy a Hawaiian luau. Slip into your floral muumuu or Aloha shirt for the Post Falls Senior Center’s summer Hawaiian celebration Aug. 17.

An island-themed dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Dancing to J.J. Dion and the Evergreen Junction Band will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

For reservations, call the Senior Center at 773-9582. Or pick up tickets in person at the center’s front desk between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.

Police plan day for families

Round the kids up for the Kids and Cops Family Day Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Post Falls police headquarters.

Kids will get to ride in a bike rodeo and learn bicycle safety. The station will also be open for tours. Various related organizations will have table displays about their work.

“We do this every year and it’s a great way for people to find out what their police department is doing,” said Lt. Scot Haug.

Ice cream, music, more at library

The Post Falls Library will offer a triple dip treat on Aug. 9. .

From 4 to 6 p.m., the C-Span2 Book TV bus will be making a stop in the library parking lot. The bus will offer tours of the studio-on-wheels. Bus visitors will also have the opportunity to tape a video question for possible use on an upcoming Book TV program “In Depth.”

From 6 . to 7 p.m., the Friends of the Post Falls Library will be hosting a free ice cream social on the library’s east lawn.

From 7 to 9 p.m., the Prairie Polecats will begin this year’s Courtyard Concert Series of free concerts. The Panhandle Polecats is a bluegrass band made up of musicians from the Little family of Rathdrum.

Millie Sloan to celebrate 90th

An open house will be held in celebration of Millie Sloan’s 90th birthday on Aug. 18.

Sloan was born in Rathdrum in 1917 to Bill and Mary Howell. She married and raised four children in the area. Sloan was known to be an avid gardener. She later owned and operated the Pixie, the first fast-food drive-in restaurant in Rathdrum – where Granny’s Pantry is today. Sloan moved to the Tri-Cities area in the early 1990s to be near her daughter.

The open house will be 3 to 5 p.m. at 6144 18th St. in Dalton Gardens. No gifts please.
