Bjorklund helps U.S. to 6-0 mark

University High School graduate Angie Bjorklund hit two big 3-pointers as the USA Women’s U19 team defeated host Slovakia 84-60 at the world championships in Bratislava Wednesday.

The USA (6-0) advances to quarterfinal play.

Bjorklund’s two 3-pointers came during a 22-10 run that gave the Americans a 49-34 lead at the half.

Maya Moore led the USA with 24 points.

The Americans’ quarterfinal opponent on Friday hasn’t been confirmed. The semifinals are Saturday with the championship game Sunday.

Men’s basketball

Zags will take on Sooners

Gonzaga will play Oklahoma in Oklahoma City on Dec. 20 in the second half of a doubleheader on ESPN, Tim Brassfield, executive director of the Oklahoma City All Sports Association, said.

The opening game of the All-College Basketball Classic will have Oklahoma State vs. Oral Roberts.

The matchup against Oklahoma will be the first between the two schools.

Also, GU forward Theo Davis has been selected for the Canadian team that will play in the World University Games in Thailand, Tuesday through Aug. 19.
