Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: As I was standing at my paper shredder shredding my daily collection of junk mail, I thought there ought to be another use for this practical invention. I grabbed some bright-red copy paper, shredded it, and voila – colorful material to put in gift bags or boxes to cushion those special gifts.

And, as an added bonus, instead of those pesky plastic “peanuts,” I use the regular shredded junk mail to pack boxes for mailing. That idea is good for the environment and a great way for children to learn about recycling. – Gayle Grigg, Phoenix

Dear Heloise: I use my favorite bar of soap until it is about the size of a motel soap. I allow it to dry, pop it into a plastic bag and have my own soap for traveling. – V.H., via e-mail

Dear Heloise: To remove stubborn tea and coffee stains from cups, simply use full-strength lemon juice and scrub. I use the generic brands to save money. – New Knoxville, Ohio, Reader
