Ibanez, Weaver break through

BALTIMORE – Raul Ibanez and Jeff Weaver ended lengthy droughts, and the Seattle Mariners snapped an impressive streak by Baltimore Orioles reliever Jamie Walker before turning a close game into a rout.

Ibanez had two homers and four RBIs, Weaver earned his first win since June 25, and the Mariners scored eight runs over the final three innings in a 10-3 victory Tuesday night.

Ibanez had gone 31 games and 116 at-bats without a home run until he hit a solo shot in the second inning against Steve Trachsel.

He connected with a man on against Walker in the seventh and doubled in a run in the eighth.

It was his seventh career multihomer game, the second this season.

“I was glad to get them, but there were a lot of big at-bats throughout the lineup,” Ibanez said. “We definitely did this as a team. I was glad to do what I did, but I wasn’t the only one who had big hits.”

Jose Guillen went 4 for 6 with two RBIs for the Mariners, who have won seven of 10, and Ichiro Suzuki had his ninth three-hit game of the season. He’s 100 for 263 (.380) lifetime against Baltimore and is batting .392 at Camden Yards.

Weaver (3-10) allowed three runs and 11 hits in six innings. The right-hander was winless in his last six starts, had lost four straight decisions and was 0-5 on the road.

“I gave up a lot of singles and they had a lot of baserunners, but I did not give up the big hit that could get them going and turn a few hits into a big inning,” Weaver said.

Seattle manager John McLaren said, “For as humid as it was, Weaver did a great job. He battled like he always does, and that was huge.”

Weaver left with Seattle trailing 3-2, but the Mariners took the lead with a three-run seventh. With two outs and a runner on second, Orioles manager Dave Trembley summoned Walker, who had gone 19 straight appearances without allowing a run.
