The Spokesman-Review

Three people were injured in a Tuesday morning crash on Interstate 90 in Post Falls.

The wreck was caused by the 18-year-old Spokane driver of one of the vehicles, according to the Idaho State Police.

Dustin L. Smith was pulling onto the freeway about 12:30 a.m. from the eastbound Spokane Street on-ramp when he hit a semitruck, police said.

Smith’s Pontiac Grand Am took the brunt of the impact, and he and his two passengers, Morgan Waddington-Auclair and Frank H. Whitworth, were taken to Kootenai Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the truck, Monte W. Judd, was not injured. Smith was cited for driving under the influence.

Addy, Wash.

Shot to head killed Stevens County man

The Stevens County man found dead last weekend was shot once in the head, officials said Tuesday.

David T. Buchanan was found in his private driveway on Marble Valley Basin Road on Sunday afternoon. The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office along with Washington State Patrol and FBI are investigating the homicide.

Buchanan’s attorney, Bevan Maxey, said his client was under investigation for allegedly growing more than 100 marijuana plants on the Addy, Wash., property.

Buchanan, who had been known to associate with the Bandido motorcycle group, was arrested in mid-July on the drug manufacturing charge, Maxey said. The federal government was investigating.

However, there was a medical marijuana issue, Maxey said.

Buchanan, 64, was on retired disability after an on-the-job injury a few years ago. He had no felony convictions, Maxey said.

The property where Buchanan lived has been owned by his family for decades, he added. “Buchanan just wanted to be left alone, live his home life and what has happened is a horrible event.”
