Auditions

“Into the Woods in Concert” – Spokane Civic Theatre, Sunday, 6:30 p.m. at the theater, 1020 N. Howard. Adult parts only. Auditioners must perform a verse and chorus from “Into the Woods” and be prepared to read cold from the script. The performance will be Oct. 21. Call (509) 325-1413.

Classes and workshops

Drumming classes – Eight-week hand drumming classes in three different styles at Malidoma World Drum and Dance Studio, 408 W. Third. West African Drumming, Thursdays, 6-7 p.m. beginning today; Middle Eastern Drumming, Fridays, 6-7 p.m. beginning Friday; Afro-Cuban Drumming, Saturdays, noon-1 p.m. beginning Saturday. Art Awards – The Spokane Arts Commission is seeking nominations for art awards to be given during Arts and Humanities Month. The categories are arts organization, individual artists, benefactor (individual or business), arts education program and “thankless martyr” to the arts. Nominations are due Aug. 15.
