CCS honors faculty, staff, administrators

Community Colleges of Spokane has awarded Teresa Gay and Donna Jo Smith the Exceptional Professional Exempt/Administrator Awards, valued at $1,000 each.

Gay is manager of special programs for international programs for Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College. She coordinates the home-stay program for students visiting Spokane from other countries.

Smith is manager of the Institute for Extended Learning’s Colville Center, which serves almost 1,100 students a year.

Community Colleges of Spokane also has awarded its Exceptional Faculty Awards.

Each winner, nominated by co-workers or students, received $1,000.

Winners from Spokane Falls Community College are Pam Austin, counselor; Kellie Fischer, communications instructor; Pam Meyers, music instructor; and Judy Noel, special education/para-educator instructor.

Winners from Spokane Community College are Andy Buddington, geology instructor; Denise “Dennie” Carlson, applied education instructor; Ginny Powers, business/management instructor; and Lisa Wolfe, business technology instructor.

Winners from the Institute for Extended Learning are Nina Beegle, GED reading instructor; Susan Coffee, computer/business technology instructor; Karen Snell, English-as-a-second-language instructor; and Lisa Williams, SCC college prep instructor.

Scholarship winner

Clem Bustamante has been awarded a $500 scholarship by the Cheney High School Alumni Association through the Cheney Area Dollars for Scholars program.

Bustamante plans to attend Eastern Washington University to become a teacher.
