CVSD employees honored for service

Central Valley School District recently honored employees for their outstanding performance.

Deb Pritzl, a secretary at North Pines Middle School for more than 18 years received the Public School Employees Performance Excellence Award for 2007.

Jeff Cross, PSE president, and Pam Forin, PSE treasurer, received the President’s Leadership Award.

Janelle Stolp, Central Valley District teacher since 1983 has received top honors from the Spokane Area Council of the International Reading Association and the International Reading Association. She also was recently honored with the Excellence in Literacy Instruction award for her years of involvement with the Whitworth Writing Rally.

• The following music students were awarded for their creativity and technical writing skills in the 2007 Junior Music Composition competition.

Seven and under division winners

First place: Kate Pointer, Pioneer School, first grade.

Second place: Rishma Murugan, Pioneer School, first grade.

Third place: Ryan Hayes, Summit School, first grade.

Honorable mention: Katie Thew, St. George’s School, first grade.

Eight to adult division winners

First place: Sean Cunningham, City School, eighth grade.

Second place: Alex Zurfluh, East Farms, fifth grade.

Third place: Emalie Wilson, Evergreen Middle School, sixth grade.

Honorable mention: Randy Sylvester, Horizon Middle School, sixth grade.

• The Spokane Valley Rotary Club recently announced high school graduates receiving a $750 scholarship award. They are: Jie Jiao, Central Valley High School; Katherine Morris, University High School; Whitney O’Riley, Valley Christian School; and Steven Ross Thompson, University High School.
