Sports in brief: Defending champ Kim ousted by Blumenherst
With a couple dozen family members and close friends conspicuous by their volume in the gallery of about 200, Amanda Blumenherst, of Scottsdale, Ariz., put on a command performance Saturday in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. She made seven birdies and no bogeys to eliminate defending champion Kimberly Kim, 5 and 3, to reach the finals.
She will face Colombia’s Maria Jose Uribe, 17, a 2 and 1 winner over 15-year-old South Korean Ha Na Jang.

Suspects remain jailed
Four men charged in the armed robbery of Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker during a home invasion remained jailed without bond.
A judge denied bond for Antoine Larkins, 28, and Demorris Hill, 25. Attorneys for the two other men charged – Phillip Allison, 28, and Gregory Reedfields, 23 – waived their clients’ right to a hearing.
Hill and Larkins are also suspects in a robbery of New York’s Eddy Curry, who was tied up and robbed in his suburban Chicago home last month.

Islanders sign Sutton
The New York Islanders got bigger and a bit younger on the blue line when they signed 6-foot-6 defenseman Andy Sutton to a three-year contract.

Djokovic, Federer win
Novak Djokovic downed Rafael Nadal 7-5, 6-3 to earn a showdown with Roger Federer in the final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Federer, the world No. 1, took a step toward a third Rogers Cup title with a methodical 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory over Radek Stepanek in the early semifinal.
“Maria Sharapova withdrew 20 minutes before her semifinal match against Nadia Petrova at the East West Bank Classic in Carson, Calif. because of a lower left leg strain.
Petrova advanced to today’s final against Ana Ivanovic, who beat Jelena Jankovic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 earlier.

Jambalaya victorious
Jambalaya found a seam down the stretch and used it to catch and pass defending champion The Tin Man and win the 25th Arlington Million in Arlington Heights, Ill.
The Tin Man, at age 9, was bidding to become the first back-to-back winner of the race, but was caught inside the 16th pole and beaten in a rousing finish.

De Leon retains title
Daniel Ponce De Leon knocked out Rey Bautista in the first round, retaining his WBO 122-pound title and recording Mexico’s only victory in the World Cup of Boxing against the Philippines in Sacramento, Calif.
