‘Warriors’ looks at mix of faith, politics

Ansley Roan Religion News Service

A three-part CNN documentary beginning Tuesday explores the beliefs and influence of what it calls “God’s Warriors.”

“Whether Muslim, Christian or Jew, millions of people view the world through a religious prism,” correspondent Christiane Amanpour says in the opening segment from Jerusalem. “They want God back in their daily lives and back to the seat of power.”

Each two-hour segment focuses on a different faith: Judaism on Tuesday, Islam on Wednesday and Christianity on Thursday.

Reporting from six countries, Amanpour interviews scholars, religious and political leaders and many believers. She spoke with the Rev. Jerry Falwell in the last interview before his death earlier this year and also talks to former President Jimmy Carter, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Israeli President Shimon Peres, among many others.

“The whole story is really about religion and politics,” says Mark Nelson, vice president and senior executive producer for CNN Productions. “It’s about how they are trying to change the laws so that they more reflect the laws of God.”
