Area roundup: Washington State women sign New Zealand point guard

International point guard Kezia Kelly has joined the Washington State University women’s basketball team, head coach June Daugherty announced Thursday.

Kelly, from Auckland, New Zealand, led her North Harbour U17 team to an undefeated season in 2005 and a first-place finish at regional and national tournaments.

Boys soccer

Tanner Williams, Spencer Swerin and Anders Nostahl scored one goal apiece to lead the Sandpoint Bulldogs to an Inland Empire League win over the host Moscow Bears. Dom Trevisan scored for Moscow.

“In Intermountain League play, Miguel Mendez had two goals and an assist to lead the host Bonners Ferry Badgers to a 4-0 win over the St. Maries Lumberjacks.

Girls soccer

Sadie Simon scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Coeur d’Alene Vikings to a 4-1 Inland Empire League win over the host Lewiston Bengals. Hayley Smith, Kady Suhr and Kaylee Nowoj also scored for the Vikings.

“In Intermountain League play, Megan Bates scored both goals as St. Maries beat host Bonners Ferry 2-0.

Volleyball

Ashley Kelley had eight kills and four blocks to lead host Lake City to a 3-0 win over Lewiston in the IEL.
