In brief: City names new deputy manager

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Director Mike Jackson has been named as the city’s new deputy city manager. He replaces Nina Regor, who accepted a position as city manager for Cloverdale, Calif.

“Mike’s previous service to Spokane Valley has been exemplary,” said City Manager David Mercier in announcing Jackson’s appointment. “His emphasis on customer service and program improvement will continue to serve the community well.”

Jackson joined the new city as its Parks and Recreation Department director in June 2003, shortly after incorporation. His accomplishments while in that role include development of the city’s first parks and recreation master plan, assisting in negotiations with the city employees union, and acting as city manager in the absence of the city manager and deputy city manager.

Jackson has more than 25 years experience in the public sector.

The city is actively recruiting a parks and recreation director to fill the position vacated by Jackson, who will continue serving in both roles until a replacement is appointed.
