PORTLAND – A wind gust reached 105 mph Sunday morning at Cape Meares in Tillamoook County as a storm moved in and the north coast braced for even stiffer winds late Sunday night and today.

Tillamook County sheriff Todd Anderson reported 35-40-foot surf and scattered power outages in the south end of the county, but said there were no reports of injuries.

Scattered outages, roof damage and road closures also were reported in the Astoria area.

Authorities said higher winds and seas through today could combine to threaten some coastal communities.

All of Lincoln County and parts of the mid-Willamette Valley including about 7,500 people in Salem lost power for a time.

Heavy snows were falling in the Cascades and Oregon Coast Range.

Forecasters said the snows are expected to melt as snow levels rise, which, combined with heavy rain at lower elevations, would feed some already-swollen rivers and streams.

A flood watch was in effect for much of Western Oregon through Wednesday morning.
