Religion Notebook : Whitworth presents holiday concert

Whitworth University will present “Journey to Bethlehem,” a Christmas concert Friday and Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St.

The Whitworth Choir and the Whitworth Women’s Choir will be accompanied by the school’s brass and string ensembles.

The concerts will be held Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1832 W. Dean Ave., will present free movies each Thursday during Advent at 6 p.m.

The movies are “Frosty the Snowman” and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” today; “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” Dec. 13; and the classic PG-13 movie, “A Christmas Story,” featuring Ralphie’s quest to get an official Red Ryder BB-gun for Christmas will be shown Dec. 20.

Hot cider will be offered in the church courtyard during intermission.

The Convent of Holy Names, 2911 W. Fort Wright Drive, will present Advent stories today from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

Sisters Roberta Lamanna and Rosemary Thielman of Wisdomworks will speak at the event, which will include a social hour with refreshments, presentations, prayer, reflections and Mass.

Donations will be accepted to benefit the Sisters of Holy Names ministries and the retirement of elder sisters.

First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present “Holiday on Pipes,” Sunday at 6 p.m. Classic Christmas carols will be played on the pipe organ by Ken Fuller. For more information, call the church office at 467-8986.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., will present a Christmas Market Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be a bake sale, merchandise booths, raffles and more. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saint Nicholas will visit the children at 1 p.m., and the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will perform a holiday concert at 3 p.m. Tickets for the concert are sold separately.
