Bushey honored by soccer coaches

Whitworth University head coach Sean Bushey has been named the 2007 West Region women’s soccer Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Bushey led the Pirates to an 18-3 record, setting several school records in the process, including most wins and winning percentage (.857).

The Pirates capped their season with the school’s first appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament and advanced to the second round.

Bushey, named the Northwest Conference women’s Coach of the Year for the first time, is 90-83-15 in his 11 years coaching the Pirates women.

He has won three NWC Men’s Coach of the Year awards with Whitworth.

College football

Whitworth had four players named to the D3football.com All-West Region team, including senior safety Jay Tully (Mead), who was a first-team selection.

Senior linebacker Marc Grow (Warden) was named to the second team, and senior linebacker Casey Clifton (University High) and sophomore running back Adam Anderson (Riverside), were third-team selections.

Tully played in the Aztec Bowl all-star game Saturday in Chihauhua, Mexico, making three tackles, one for a loss, as Team USA beat Mexico 37-19.
