Adults, kids, mobius make for a great mix

Most of the activities at Mobius Kids – the downtown children’s museum adjacent to the lower level at River Park Square – are built around children. It is, after all, a hands-on place where children can go to explore science and discover fascinating facts about the world around us.

In addition to other activities, each year at Christmas time Mobius puts on a breakfast with Santa. Little ones fill up on eggs, bacon and delicious pastries and then line up to tell the old guy what they’d like to see under the tree. This year, little hands decorated a big gingerbread house to display during the holiday season festivities.

But that doesn’t mean it’s all work and no play for the grownups.

Mobius Kids is a nonprofit entity. They depend on the financial support of the community. That support comes in unexpected ways.

At the annual Mixing at Mobius martini party, held this fall, adults got together to shake up the routine and stir in a little glamour. Donors, accompanied by live music, moved from one martini station to another tasting exotic concoctions and classic drinks.

For one night a place that belongs to little people became a playground for all ages.

Mobius for Kids has big plans. The landmark Mobius Science Center at Michael Anderson Plaza is in the design process and is slated to open in two years.

And when it’s done a good thing will get even better. For everyone.
