Buffalo wins in shootout

Buffalo’s Ales Kotalik scored the only shootout goal and the Sabres beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-5 on Saturday night in Philadelphia, to extend their season-high winning streak to six games.

Kotalik, who also scored in regulation, beat goalie Martin Biron to the glove side for the winner.

Buffalo’s Thomas Vanek scored through a screen from the right circle with 7.2 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Blackhawks 4, Senators 3 (OT): At Ottawa, Patrick Sharp scored the tying goal early in the third and set up Jonathan Toews’ goal in overtime in Chicago’s win over the Senators.

Sharp, who misfired on a second-period penalty shot, scored 38 seconds into the third to draw Chicago even at 3.

Maple Leafs 2, Panthers 1 (OT): At Sunrise, Fla., Pavel Kubina scored a power-play goal 34 seconds into overtime to help Toronto snap a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Panthers.

Kyle Wellwood also scored for Toronto.

Islanders 3, Capitals 2 (OT): At Uniondale, N.Y., Richard Park’s goal 3:43 into overtime helped New York to a victory over Washington.

Park took Radek Martinek’s pass in the lower left circle and beat Olie Kolzig with a wrist shot for his sixth goal of the season.

Thrashers 3, Canadiens 2 (SO): At Atlanta, Slava Kozlov and Marian Hossa each scored in the shootout to give the Thrashers a victory over Montreal.

Atlanta has won three straight after losing four in a row.

Hurricanes 4, Lightning 1: At Tampa, Fla., Ray Whitney scored twice and had an assist in the third period, and Cam Ward stopped 29 shots to lead Carolina past Tampa Bay.

Whitney gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead at 9:31 of the third and added an empty-netter with 1 minute left.

Ducks 5, Sharks 2: At San Jose, Calif., Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 27 saves in Anaheim’s second win in San Jose in five days.

Blues 4, Bruins 1: At Boston, Brad Boyes continued his strong start with his 21st goal and Manny Legace made 24 saves, leading St. Louis to a win over the Bruins.

Lee Stempniak, Jamal Mayers and Keith Tkachuk also scored for the Blues.

Red Wings 4, Wild 1: At St. Paul, Minn., Dominik Hasek made 18 saves and tight-checking Detroit shut down Marian Gaborik in a victory over Minnesota.

Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen, Daniel Cleary and Tomas Kopecky scored for the Red Wings.

Predators 4, Kings 3: At Nashville, Tenn., Jason Arnott recorded his first hat trick in more than two years and the Predators snapped a five-game losing streak by beating Los Angeles, sending the Kings to their seventh straight loss.

Canucks 2, Coyotes 1 (SO): At Glendale, Ariz., Roberto Luongo made 27 saves and stopped 3 of 4 attempts in the shootout to lift Vancouver to a victory over Phoenix.

Taylor Pyatt recorded his first shootout goal and Trevor Linden also scored in the tiebreaker for the Canucks.
