Producer, MTV teaming up on games

Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer is branching into video games.

Bruckheimer, whose movies and TV shows include the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy and the “C.S.I” franchise, is setting up a gaming lab with MTV Games.

“He’s been able to kind of reinvent genres. We’re hoping he’ll do the same in the video game space,” said Bob Picunko, MTV’s vice president of electronic games and interactive products.

Bruckheimer said he expected the games to mirror his work in film and television, where his hallmark is action-packed drama featuring explosions and car chases.

DVD dogs, take two

Malaysia will get two new sniffer dogs to unearth pirated DVDs after the resounding success of their predecessors.

Paddy and Manny, male Labradors from Ireland who are being trained to sniff out chemicals used in DVDs, will arrive in Malaysia in February.

During their six-month stint in Malaysia, predecessors Lucky and Flo helped find 1.6 million pirated DVDs and other optical discs and equipment, worth $6 million, as part of a project spearheaded by the Motion Picture Association of America.
