Girls: Cougars take care of Warriors in first round

Nichole Miller scored a game-high 19 points and April Barkley added 16 as Curlew (20-1) topped visiting St. Michael’s (5-15) 60-28 Tuesday in the first round of the District 7 1B Tournament.

The Cougars got out to a quick start, outscoring the Warriors 35-12 in the first half.

Katie Urann tossed in a team-high 18 points for St. Michael’s.

In other tournament action, Amanda Smith scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Holly Edwards added 16 points and 10 boards as Cusick (9-12) beat visiting Odessa (0-20) 59-39. Stephanie Wilson tallied 17 points for the Tigers, who will play at St. Michael’s Friday at 6 p.m. The Panthers advance to play at Curlew at 6 p.m. on Friday. … Serena Condon led four players in double figures with 16 points as Inchelium (16-4) routed visiting Northport (3-16) 74-34. Amanda Burch tossed in 12 points and Chelsi Pakootas and Destiny Christianson each added 11 for the Hornets, who put the game away in the first quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 31-3. Kaprina Goodwin tallied a team-high 22 points for Northport. … Breanna Martin scored 12 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, leading Almira/Coulee-Hartline (5-15) to a 42-32 win over visiting Columbia (4-16) in Hartline. Sarah Gloyn chipped in 12 points and Megan Osborne added 10 for the Warriors, who outscored the Lions 15-2 in the opening quarter. Sami Montgomery and Brandi Johnson scored 13 points apiece to lead Columbia, who will play Northport at 6 p.m. on Friday. ACH will host Inchelium on Friday at 6 p.m. in Hartline.

Cory Druffel scored a game-high 15 points and Kirsi Voshell and Jessica Thomas chipped in 12 points apiece as Pullman (17-0, 11-0) routed visiting West Valley (8-9, 6-5) 65-24 in a Great Northern League game. The Greyhounds outscored the Eagles 17-5 in the second quarter to take an 18-point lead into halftime. Krystal McCarthy tallied a team-high 14 points for West Valley, who only managed three second-half points. … Elsewhere in the GNL, Richelle Daily scored a game-high 18 points and Kaitlin McNeil added 10 as Medical Lake (7-10, 4-7) edged host Riverside (7-9, 4-7) 49-46. Daily was 12 of 15 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Shea Spicer led the Rams with 15 points and six rebounds.

“Kellogg captured its first 3A District I championship, topping Intermountain League champion Bonners Ferry (14-8) 45-35 in a defensive battle at Rolly Williams Court at North Idaho College. The Wildcats (20-2) advance to state, Feb. 15-17 at Middleton High School. Amanda Seeling tallied a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats. … In other tournament action, Tabitha Clark scored a game-high 16 points as Priest River (15-7) topped St. Maries (6-17) 57-46. Lacy Hopkins added 10 points for the Spartans, who outscored the Lumberjacks 25-17 in the first half. Mallory Lehman tallied a team-high 11 points for St. Maries.
