District honors educator teams

Sara Leaming The Spokesman-Review

Spokane Public Schools honored the second of two Distinguished Educator Teams this week.

The third- and fourth-grade educator teams at Lidgerwood Elementary School were named by the district. The teams include facilitator and instructional coach Teresa Mock, third-grade teachers Janice Sahagian and Jenna Starr, and fourth-grade teachers Carla Hosner and Debbie McDonald.

The teams take extra time to examine curriculum guides and dissect student data, giving teachers a chance to align the needs of their students with the time a particular topic will be taught, school district officials said in a news release.

“On a daily basis our students benefit from this careful work,” said Principal Valorie Chadwick.

Shadle Park High School instructional coaches Jaki Lake, Beth McGibbon, Linda Hutchinson and Chrissy Allen were previously named by the district as a Distinguished Educator Team.

Riverside students compete in Orca Bowl

Students from Riverside High School will compete in the Washington State Ocean Sciences Bowl Feb. 24.

The event, known as the Orca Bowl, is held on the University of Washington campus in Seattle. Five students – four on a team and one alternate – from Riverside will compete in the bowl answering questions about biology, chemistry, geology, physics, history and the economics of the ocean.

The winning team will receive an all-expenses paid trip to New York to compete in a national competition.

‘Grease!’ at LCHS

The musical theatre department at Lewis and Clark High School will perform the 1950s tale “Grease!” begining next week.

The musical is scheduled for Feb. 22-24 and March 1-3, in the school auditorium, 521 W. Fourth Ave.

Curtain is at 7 p.m. for all shows. Tickets are $5 in advance, available through the LC business office, or $7 at the door.
