His next pitch may be for leniency
A mug shot of Victor Mischenko in the county warrants roundup Monday on Huckleberries Online (HBO) rekindled memories for ex-CdA P&Zer Steve Badraun: “Victor Mischenko was a pal of mine on the streets of Priest River in the 1950s. His parents were one of several ‘white Russian’ families that had settled in the little logging community. He was a quiet boy, kept close to himself, and worked hard in school. My mother taught him in second grade. I remember that when our gang would get into rock fights with the Mischenko boys, Victor could fire one from 100 yards away and nail us every time no matter where we tried to run. Don’t know what happened as he grew up, but I always remember that rock coming at me like a heat-seeking missile.” Alas, Steve’s childhood pal will be breaking rocks if the county catches him for failing to appear in court on a felony DUI count.
• Sheriff’s Capt. Ben Wolfinger suffered heartburn Wednesday when HBO introduced KCSD’s Web makeover prematurely. Seems office gremlins had fun spoofing real news as they configured the site. As a result, a subhead in the “recent news” scroll redubbed Rocky Watson “shriff.” Another announced that county crime was lowest in the nation. Below, the brief text of the faux story claimed: “There is no more crime.” In this instance, it’s too bad that life doesn’t imitate fiction.
• Scanner Traffic (Monday): “A woman bending over to tie her shoes reports serious back trouble; in fact, she says that the pain is worse than childbirth.” That had to hurt.
