Latin-style fundraiser to aid El Salvador school

Dinner and fundraiser

Los Hermanos and Las Hermanas will present a Latin-style dinner, a silent auction, presentation and Latin music Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4043 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

Los Hermanos is a group of students from Lewis and Clark High School who have been raising money to support a high school in Huizisilapa, El Salvador. Las Hermanas is a group of Spokane women who support the women of the town.

The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults and $8 for children. Donations will also be accepted.

Speakers

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., will present Aaron Deckenback of the University of Massachusetts Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Deckenback worked with children with HIV/AIDS in South Africa last summer with the Global Mission Boards of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Deckenback will give a PowerPoint presentation at noon, after the service.

•Zion Christian Center, 545 E. Wellesley Ave., and Life Center Foursquare Church, 1202 N. Government Way, will present Financial Peace University.

The 13-week course will be taught via videotapes featuring Dave Ramsey, author of “The Total Money Makeover,” who will discuss topics that include saving for emergencies, budgeting, getting out of debt, understanding investments and insurance, and retirement and college planning.

The cost is $100 for materials.

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St., will present Adam Shipman and Lutheran Community Services Northwest today at 7 p.m.

Shipman will speak on the topic “Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse” and will discuss facts, myths, signs and symptoms of abuse.

‘Veggie Tales’ pre-release showing

The Zion Christian Center, 545 E. Wellesley Ave., will present the latest Veggie Tales video, “Moe & the Big Exit,” Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m.

Yuen Method demonstrations

Kari Wagler and Linda Leith will present demonstrations on the Yuen Method. The techniques discussed could help with chronic pain, weight loss, mental clarity and increased flexibility.

The demonstrations will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Unity Center, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, next Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., next Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Providence Center for Faith and Healing at Sacred Heart Medical Center, 101 W. Eighth Ave., and Feb. 23 from noon to 2 p.m., also at the Providence Center.
