Scotties outlast Eagles in OT

Andrew Dresback scored a game-high 19 points and Marc Soelberg added 13 as Freeman outlasted Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 53-50 in overtime in a boys District 7 1A tournament game at Mead on Wednesday night.

Soelberg made a layin with 8 seconds left to send the contest into overtime.

Dresback scored the final four points for the Scotties (16-5).

Nick Phillips paced the Eagles (14-8) with a team-high 16 points.

In other tournament action, Jerodd Berarducci scored 20 points to lead Colfax past Chewelah 69-63 in double overtime. Nathan Johnson added 11 points and six assists for the Bulldogs (17-4), who will face Freeman in the district championship game at 8 p.m. Friday at Mead. The Cougars (11-11) will take on Lakeside in a consolation game at 5.

Kris Widman scored 22 points to lead Rosalia past Prescott 81-73 in a loser-out District 9 1B tournament game at Walla Walla High. Widman’s 17 included an 11-for-14 performance from the line. Nate Bailey had 22 points for Rosalia (12-12), including 12 from 3-point range. … Josiah Tampien scored 13 points as Tekoa-Oakesdale ended Garfield-Palouse’s (15-7) season with a 48-44 win. Tekoa-Oakesdale (18-5) takes on the loser of St. John-Endicott/Liberty Christian in a loser-out contest at 6 p.m. Friday at Colfax Grade School. Rosalia will play the loser of LaCrosse-Washtucna/Tri-Cities Prep in a loser-out game at 4:30.

Girls basketball

Jennesa Miller and Kelsey Raines scored eight points apiece to lead Freeman past Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 39-31 in a District 7 1A tournament game at Mead. The Scotties (17-4) used a stifling defense to spark their offense on the way to a 25-18 lead at the half. Kia Gibson scored a game-high 15 points for the Eagles (14-8). … In other tournament games, Meagan Teade scored 13 points to lead Colfax in a 55-20 rout of Chewelah. The top-seeded Bulldogs (19-2) forced the Cougars (14-8) into committing 26 turnovers. … Freeman faces Colfax in a district championship matchup at Mead at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Lakeside faces Chewelah in a consolation game at 3:30.

•Tri-Cities Prep upset No. 1 seed Liberty Christian 40-33 in a District 9 1B tournament basketball loser-out contest at Walla Walla High. The Patriots (13-10) had swept Tri-Cities Prep (7-16) during the regular season. … Roni Jo Mielke scored a game-high 22 points to pace Sprague-Harrington in a 56-22 rout of Touchet (15-7), which saw its season come to end. Natalie Deking added 11 for the Falcons (20-3), who will play the loser of Colton/St. John-Endicott in a loser-out game at Colfax High at 6 p.m. Friday. Tri-Cities Prep takes on the loser of Garfield-Palouse/Tekoa-Oakesdale in a 4:30 loser-out game.
