‘Galactica’ renewed for season

From Wire Reports The Spokesman-Review

The interstellar conflict between the humans and the Cylons will continue for another year.

The Sci Fi Channel announced this week that it has renewed its critically acclaimed series “Battlestar Galactica” for a fourth season, which is tentatively set to premiere in January 2008.

The Peabody-winning series revolves around the battle between humans and their robot creations, the Cylons, who launched a nuclear attack and obliterated all but 50,000 human survivors.

It stars Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park.

“Battlestar” recently returned to television with the second half of its third season, moving from Friday to Sunday nights. Since its move, the show’s audience has grown in the total viewers, female viewers and adult demographics.

‘C&L’ to DVD

“Cagney & Lacey,” the 1980s police drama about a female detective duo fighting crime in a man’s world, will mark its 25th anniversary on May 8 with the DVD release of its first season.

The four-disc package, from MGM Home Entertainment, also contains a two-part documentary and commentary from Gloria Steinem, who championed the show for featuring women in roles that typically went to men.

“It changed the history of television for women,” says Sharon Gless, who played Chris Cagney. “Absolutely changed it.”

The series, which ran on CBS from 1982 to 1988, also starred Tyne Daly as Mary Beth Lacey.

It was canceled at the end of its first season, only to be recalled by CBS after devoted fans flooded the network with letters. The show went on to win 14 Emmys, including four for Daly and two for Gless.
