Black History Month events at NIC include documentary
North Idaho College will present a film about the struggle for civil rights in honor of Black History Month at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building.
“The Right to Dream” is a documentary about the coming of age of a young African American man in Mississippi during the 1950s and 1960s. Raymond Hollis befriends a white boy, whom he is later told he is no longer allowed to see. Years later, Hollis fights back against segregation and inequality by becoming a civil rights activist and through his involvement with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
The film is brought to life through narration by actors who speak in character as the subjects of the film.
The event is presented by the NIC Diversity Events Committee and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 769-3397.
