Kosher dinner

Mark your calendars for the popular kosher dinner hosted by Temple Beth Shalom.

The 66th annual event will be March 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the temple, 1322 E. 30th Ave. The event will include live entertainment and a bake sale in addition to a kosher beef brisket dinner with traditional Jewish side dishes.

The menu includes potato knishes, carrot tzimmes, Mediterranean spiced apples, challah bread and apricot kuchen (a sweet cake). Takeout orders will be available.

The klezmer band Chutzpah, the Kosher Redhots, and The Mavens are scheduled to perform.

The cost is $14 for adults or $7 for children under 11. Purchase your tickets early, as they tend to sell out.

Guest evangelist

Evangelist Claudio Freidzon will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church, 828 W. Indiana Ave.

The graduate of the River Plate Bible Institute of the Assemblies of God is also the founder of King of Kings Church and the author of “Holy Spirit, I Hunger for You.” All are welcome to attend.

Panel discussion

Whitworth College will host a panel discussion titled “A Conversation about Christianity and Evolution” at 7 p.m. Monday in Weyerhaeuser Hall on the Whitworth campus, 300 W. Hawthorne Road.

Joint worship service

The congregations of four Spokane Valley churches will gather for one worship service Sunday at 10 a.m. at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave.

They will be marking the end of the season for Upward Basketball, a faith-based league for children. An awards presentation is planned.

The congregations involved include Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, Opportunity Presbyterian Church and Opportunity Christian Church.

Child care will be available for children through age 3.

Guatemala missionary report

Members of a Nazarene Work and Witness team that recently spent time in Guatemala assisting the Mayan Indians will give a report on their work at 6 p.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd.

While in Guatemala, the team helped build a church and also offered dental and medical clinics.

All are welcome to attend the team’s presentation.

Lenten program

The Metaline Falls (Wash.) Congregational United Church of Christ will begin its annual Lenten soup luncheon and program series Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The sessions will be held each Sunday through March 25.

This year’s program will focus on the book “Genesis of Grace” by John Indermark. All are welcome, and there is no charge.

Missionary presentation

The Rev. Arthur Houk will show slides of missionary work in economically depressed areas of Tennessee in a program called “Journey into Tennessee” at 6 p.m. Sunday at Arden Faith Baptist Church, at 673 Arden Road near Colville.

Theater performances

Christian Youth Theater-Spokane is presenting Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” with a cast of 60 children ages 8 to 18.

Performances are at 3 and 7 p.m. today and next Saturday; at 3 p.m. Sunday; at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; and at 7 p.m. Friday.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. Admission at the door is $10.

Specially priced tickets are available to teachers for the school-day performances.
