NC surprises Mt. Spokane

Cody Hauenstein scored a game-high 17 points and Nick Rijon added 14 as North Central upset Mt. Spokane 64-56 Friday in a District 8 3A playoff game at Mt. Spokane.

Justin Anderson chipped in 12 points for the Indians (6-16), who led 43-27 after three quarters.

Taylor Reed and Ryan Selland scored 13 points each to lead the Wildcats (9-12).

Both teams advance to face Columbia Basin League teams at the 3A Eastern Region playoffs. NC is the Greater Spokane League’s No. 1 seed and will have a first-round bye. Mt. Spokane will face the CBL third-seed at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a loser-out game.

Girls

Senior Tiffany Bittner had 13 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks as East Valley beat Mt. Spokane 64-40 in a District 8 3A playoff game at EV. Eleaya Schuerch added 13 points and five boards for the Knights (8-13), who lost both regular-season games against the Wildcats this season. Mt. Spokane (6-16) was led by Sam Patrick, who tossed in a team-high 12 points. Both teams advance to face Columbia Basin League teams at the 3A Eastern Region playoffs. The Wildcats will travel to the CBL third-seed in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Tuesday. East Valley has a first-round bye and will not play until Thursday night.
