NHL : Brodeur notches 92nd shutout of career

Martin Brodeur made 31 saves for his league-leading 12th shutout of the season and Jamie Langenbrunner scored as the New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 Thursday night in Pittsburgh.

Brodeur set a career high for shutouts in a season with the 92nd of his career. He’s third on the career list, two behind George Hainesworth and 11 behind leader Terry Sawchuk.

It was the second time this season Brodeur blanked the Penguins, who fell 11 points behind the Atlantic Division-leading Devils by losing for the third time in four outings since having a 16-game point streak snapped.

Islanders 6, Flyers 5 (OT): At Uniondale, N.Y., Trent Hunter scored his second goal on a power play with 30.7 seconds left in overtime to give New York a victory over Philadelphia.

Jason Blake had a hat trick and an assist for the Islanders, and Chris Simon also scored. Rick DiPietro stopped 29 shots and the Islanders improved to 5-1-0 on their seven game home stand.

Sabres 6, Maple Leafs 1: At Toronto, Jochen Hecht scored twice and had an assist to lead Buffalo to a rout of the Maple Leafs.

Jason Pominville, Drew Stafford, Derek Roy and Clarke MacArthur also scored for the Sabres.

Stars 2, Lightning 1 (OT): At Tampa, Fla., Ladislav Nagy scored with 3:25 left in overtime to give Dallas a victory over Tampa Bay.

Jere Lehtinen had the other Dallas goal and Marty Turco made 19 saves. The Stars have won eight straight at Tampa Bay.

Panthers 6, Capitals 5 (SH): At Washington, Olli Jokinen scored three goals, and Florida won its first shootout of the season, using goals by Jozef Stumpel and Ville Peltonen to beat the Capitals.

The Panthers were 0-6 in shootouts and 1-13 in games that extended beyond regulation.

Rangers 4, Canadiens 0: At New York, Marcel Hossa scored two goals to lead the Rangers over Montreal.

Henrik Lundqvist made 19 saves in his third shutout this season and fifth in two seasons.

Senators 4, Hurricanes 2: At Raleigh, N.C., Wade Redden scored with 4:48 left to lift Ottawa over Carolina.

The Senators scored three times in the third period to win their seventh in eight games.

Blues 3, Canucks 1: At St. Louis, Doug Weight scored twice in the third period, getting the game-winner on a breakaway, and the Blues beat Vancouver.

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 1: At Chicago, Tomas Holmstrom scored two goals and Dominik Hasek made 24 saves to lead Detroit over the Blackhawks.

Avalanche 3, Blue Jackets 2: At Denver, Peter Budaj stopped 21 shots and Colorado survived a late scare to defeat Columbus.

Coyotes 3, Oilers 0: At Edmonton, Alberta, Curtis Joseph turned away 24 shots and Owen Nolan and Yannick Lehoux scored power-play goals to lift Phoenix over Edmonton.
